The New York Rangers started day two of the 2015 NHL Draft with picks 59, 89, 119, 179 and 209 but that quickly changed as fast as the speed of Carl Hagelin as he was dealt to the Anaheim Ducks along with picks 59 and 179 for Anaheim’s 41st pick and Emerson Etem. With the 41st pick New York went on to select Ryan Gropp from Seattle.
The Rangers weren’t done yet as they made another big yet expected trade, sending Cam Talbot and a draft pick to the Edmonton Oilers for picks 57, 79 and 184. The Rangers then flipped pick 57 to Washington for picks 62 and 113.

The Trade
It’s definitely a shocker, but it happened. Veteran speedster Carl Hagelin was traded to the Anaheim Ducks for young speedster Emerston Etem. Hagelin and Etem are both pending RFA’s the only difference is contracts. Hagelin is coming off a two-year deal worth $2.25 million annually with the uncertainty of what type of contract he will ask for next.
In 82 games played Carl Hagelin tied his regular-season career high with 17 goals. He also notched 18 assists, 35 pts, and a plus 18.
Hagelin will add speed and experience to the already threatening Anaheim Ducks.
Emerson Etem
Etem is a 23-year-old, 6-foot-1 and 212 pounds, former first-round draft pick who had 10 points in 45 games last season. He has 31 points in 112 games, all with the Ducks, who selected him with the No. 29 pick in the 2010 draft.
Etem showed signs of what he can do by scoring three goals in 12 games during the playoffs, including a highlight-reel tally against Winnipeg in the opening round.
Etem is a big body with some speed who was a point-per-game player in the American Hockey League.
Cam Talbot
Talbot, 27, registered a .926 save percentage and 2.21 goals-against average in 36 games (34 starts) with the Rangers last season.
Talbot has appeared in 57 career games with the Rangers, posting a 33-15-5 record with 2.00 goals-against average and .931 save percentage.
Talbot feels he is ready to be a starting goaltender and with Viktor Fasth being an unrestricted free agent, the Oilers can let him go which will give Talbot the opportunity to play regularly in net, which was something he could not do in New York.
