Rookie defenseman Dylan McIlrath will draw into the lineup on Tuesday against the Winnipeg Jets for the second time this season and the fourth time in his career.
Rangers coach Alain Vigneault announced after practice on Monday that McIlrath would be getting the nod because of a very strong camp. Meanwhile 39-year-old veteran Dan Boyle will be scratched because he “can play better than he has,” according to Newsday’s Steve Zipay.
Boyle has played in all three Rangers games so far this season, contributing an assist and a single shot so far. He’s a veteran of 1,022 NHL games and we may be seeing the tail end of things here.
Meanwhile, 23-year-old, 6-foot-5 McIlrath enters the lineup with a skill set that compliments what the Rangers do best, providing a grinding presence with the ability to add secondary scoring.
