The coaching staff for Team Canada for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey is coming into focus.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Toronto Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock would be driving the car with Chicago coach Joel Quenneville and Boston Bruins coach Claude Julien riding shotgun. On Wednesday night TSN’s Darren Dreger reported that Barry Trotz will also be taking an assistant coach position.
Trotz is most heavily associated with the Nashville Predators, where he was the team’s only coach since they arrived via expansion up until last season. After 15 years as the bench boss for the Predators, he’s in his second year for the Washington Capitals. He additionally served his country as an assistant coach in the World Championships in 2002, 2003, and 2009.
Dreger also noted that there’s a good chance a fifth coach is added to the brain trust when Hockey Canada announces the full coaching staff, which is expected to be on Thursday.
