There has been speculation and rumors that Carlyle could indeed be the man in Anaheim, though nothing developed right away after the two parties met at the end of May. Now, it seems that Anaheim will make it official as early as tomorrow morning.
Carlyle coached the Ducks from 2005-2012 before being fired and replaced by Bruce Boudreau. After losing in the Conference Finals in 2006, Carlyle led the Ducks to a Stanley Cup Championship in 2007. However, they followed up that performance by missing the playoffs two of the next five seasons and failing to advance past the second round when they did make the postseason.
After his stint with the Ducks, Carlyle went on to coach the Toronto Maple Leafs for four seasons. Toronto made the postseason once during that span but found themselves eliminated by the Boston Bruins in what was a monumental collapse. He was fired from Toronto in January 2015.
The Ducks finished their 2015-16 campaign with a record of 46-25-11 and earned a postseason bid despite a disastrous start. However, they were eliminated in round one at the hands of the Nashville Predators.
