The Edmonton Oilers have placed forward Rob Klinkhammer and defenseman Justin Schultz on injured reserve, the team announced on Wednesday.
In a corresponding move they have recalled defenseman Joey LaLeggia and forward Tyler Pitlick from the Bakersfield Condors of the AHL.
Schultz didn’t play in Tuesday’s loss to the Minnesota Wild and that, along with Griffin Reinhart hitting IR, paved the way for the season debut of Darnell Nurse, in which he grabbed his first NHL goal.
For his part, Klinkhammer took a seemingly innocent-looking hit into the boards from the Wild’s Ryan Suter on Tuesday, which sent him to the locker room.
The 23-year-old Pitlick has played 27 NHL games, spread over two seasons. Last year he saw 17 games of action, over which he scored a pair of goals. Pitlick has played just two games with AHL Bakersfield this season and has no points.
LaLeggia is a 23-year-old rookie who has never played a NHL game and has recorded one assist through six games with the Condors this season. Nurse’s success and the high expectations for his future may mean that LaLeggia’s recall is more of an insurance move than an effort to get him his NHL debut.
