When the Buffalo Sabres acquired center Ryan O’Reilly from the Colorado Avalanche at the NHL Draft back in June, the 24-year old was a pending unrestricted free agent.
However, after signing the richest contract in Sabres history, O’Reilly is set to firmly plant his roots in the city that he’ll spend the next eight seasons, or more, in. The Clinton, Ontario native finally closed on a house in the city, two months after joining the team.
The home that O’Reilly purchased belonged to former Sabres defensemen Tyler Myers, who was traded to the Winnipeg Jets back in February in the deal that brought Evander Kane to the Sabres. Myers bought the 5,600-square-foot house in September 2013 for $1.42 million. He sold it to O’Reilly for $1.34 million, meaning he did ultimately lose some money on the investment.
The home has four bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms. Also included is a year-round pool and spa. Fans interested in looking at the property that was purchased can do so thanks to this virtual tour.
O’Reilly and the new look Sabres will open training later this month before opening the preseason on September 21 against the Minnesota Wild. O’Reilly also has to deal with the legal proceeds stemming from his arrest for driving while impaired back in July. His next court date is scheduled for September 10.
