One of the biggest questions surrounding the Buffalo Sabres and the 2016 NHL Trade Deadline is the status of pending unrestricted free agent Jamie McGinn.
The forward in his first year with the Sabres has 14 goals and 13 assists for Buffalo this season, which is good for fifth on the team. Though many thought that the team may look to extend him prior to the deadline, that doesn’t appear to be the case.
According to The Fourth Period, the Sabres are expected to trade the 27-year old by the time the 3pm deadline rolls around on Monday. The team is looking for at least a second-round pick in return for McGinn, which has been believed to be the case for some time.
In addition to McGinn, the Sabres are listening to calls on defenseman Josh Gorges as well as forward David Legwand. Other players that could be on the move by Monday include goaltender Chad Johnson and forward Tyler Ennis.
The team had been talking to Arizona about Mikkel Boedker, but the price is too high for a pending UFA. That has led to general manager Tim Murray backing away from those efforts, according to sources close to the talks.
