Sabres Forward Evander Kane Arrested by Buffalo Police

Buffalo Sabres forward Evander Kane was arrested by the Buffalo Police Department on Friday, after voluntarily turning himself in on charges that stem from an incident that occurred at a bar in downtown Buffalo on June 24.

Shortly after Kane’s arrest, the Buffalo Police Department released the following statement:

The alleged incident took place on June 24 at the Bottoms Up Bar, in Buffalo, reported WBFO, Buffalo’s NPR news station. On June 27, the Buffalo Police Department released its report on the incident. At the time, however, no formal charges were filed against Kane.

Based on a statement released by the Buffalo Police Department, Kane faces one charge of misdemeanor criminal trespass and four counts of non-criminal harassment. The Buffalo News reported that the harassment charges allege that Kane engaged in “physical conduct” with the alleged victims.

Shortly after his arrest, Kane was processed at Buffalo Police Department’s Central Booking before being given an appearance ticket.  An attorney for Bottoms Up Bar has said that Kane was not trespassing, reported Scott Levin, an anchor at WGRZ, Buffalo’s NBC-affiliate.

Kane’s attorney, Paul J. Cambria, told The Buffalo News that the star center will fight the charges and that he does not believe Kane’s future with the Sabres is in jeopardy. “Without a doubt, he plans to defend himself against these charges,” Cambria told The Buffalo News.

NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said that Kane is being directed to the NHL/NHLPA Behavioral Health professionals for evaluation and counseling if deemed necessary, TSN’s Darren Dreger reported .

Kane’s arraignment on the criminal trespass charge has been set for Aug. 1.
