Scott Wilson, the Pittsburgh Penguins’ left-wing who has filled in admirably throughout his first season with a substantial NHL workload, will miss significant time due to an undisclosed injury. While the Penguins haven’t officially announced the ailment, it’s believed to be an ankle.
Penguins’ head coach Mike Sullivan told the media today that Wilson will require surgery.

Wilson was recently one of three Penguins’ prospects to sign a new one-way deal with the club that will kick in for the 2016-17 season. His new contract is a two-year deal worth $640,000 annually.
During his time with the Penguins this season, he has mainly played a bottom-six role but also earned time on the top line with Sidney Crosby as Pittsburgh has dealt with a rash of injuries over the last few weeks. Wilson has five goals and six total points through 24 games played in the NHL this season to accompany his 22 goals and 36 points accrued in 34 games at the AHL level.
Wilson will join Penguins’ center Evgeni Malkin on the list of players expected to miss substantial time as Pittsburgh continues to battle for an Eastern Conference playoff bid.
