The deal – which will carry through the 2019-20 season – carries a AAV of $5,187,500 according to Cap Friendly and at just 26 years old, the Sens have locked up one of their core players during what should be the peak years of Hoffman’s career.
Originally a fifth-round pick of the Senators in 2009 (130th overall), Hoffman’s played 186 regular season games over parts of five seasons. He’s scored 59 goals and 113 points over that span and he’s coming off his best NHL season where he managed 29 goals and 59 points in 78 games.
Hoffman finished among the top 30 skaters in the NHL in goals last season – leading the Sens in goals (29) and power play goals (9).
Over the past two seasons, Hoffman’s only missed seven games during the regular season notching 56 goals and 107 of his 113 career points. Those kind of number certainly have the Senators happy after taking the Kitchener native in the fifth round.
The signing allows the Sens to lock up their top goal scorer over the past two seasons and should have fans excited along with the offseason addition of Derick Brassard.
