Arizona Coyotes captain Shane Doan, in his 1,420th career game, tied Dale Hawerchuk’s mark for most goals in franchise history with 379.
Doan, who scored a hat trick in Arizona’s 7-5 loss to Chicago on Wednesday, has spent his entire career with the organization, playing one season with the Winnipeg Jets before the move to the southwest. He’s just one goal from taking sole possession of the title in a season where he’s set many personal marks and continues to rise up the NHL’s all-time ranks.
Hawerchuk, the Jets number one overall draft pick in the 1981 draft, played just nine seasons with the team, scoring 376 goals in that time. He ultimately scored 518 career goals, spending time with the Buffalo Sabres, St. Louis Blues and Philadelphia Flyers.
Watch the third goal of Doan’s hat trick below. It’s the goal that moved Doan into a tie for first place in franchise history.
This season Doan has moved from a tie for the 37th most games played in history up to 29th. He’s moved from the 116th most goals scored all-time to a tie for 108th with Claude Lemieux and Ted Lindsay. And he’s now tied with Bobby Orr for the 100th most points all-time, after starting the season tied for 106th with Ray Ferraro.
