The ESPY Awards, or Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Awards, were given out Wednesday night to honor the best-of-the-best in sports. Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins received the ESPY for Best NHL Player which should come as no surprise given his recent Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe Trophy accolades. This is the seventh time that Crosby has won the ESPY for the NHL’s best player, as he’s also done so in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2013, and 2014.

While Crosby got off to a slow start in the 2015-16 season, the perennial superstar managed to turn things around in the second-half of the year. In 80 games, Crosby scored 36 goals and 85 points which earned him a spot as a finalist for the Hart Trophy. While Crosby was unable to win the trifecta of Hart, Conn Smythe, and Stanley Cup trophies, the latter award is the only one that ever truly matters to an NHL player.
Crosby is still just 28-years-old, and despite an insurgence of fresh talent coming into the league led by Connor McDavid, Jack Eichel, Auston Matthews, and Patrik Laine, the Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia native has no interest in slowing down just yet. The League is full of superstars, but for now, Crosby still stands among the best, and he now has another ESPY to prove it.
