The St. Louis Blues have re-signed right winger Ty Rattie to a one-year, one-way contract worth $650,000, the team announced on Wednesday.
Rattie, 23, appeared in 13 NHL games last season, tallying 4 goals and 6 points. Rattie has the opportunity to take on an increased role with the Blues after the team lost forwards David Backes, Troy Brouwer and Steve Ott to free agency on July 1st.
Rattie was originally drafted by the Blues 32nd overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. While playing with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League during the 2015-16 season, Rattie scored 17 goals and 46 points in 62 games. In his two previous seasons with the Wolves, Rattie has played in 131 games, compiling 52 goals and 90 points.
Before beginning his professional career, the 6′, 190-pound forward showed a strong goal scoring ability during with the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League where he had 151 goals and 348 points in 269 games. During the 2012-13 season, Rattie helped the Winterhawks win the Ed Chynoweth Cup (WHL championship) and was named the tournament’s most valuable player.
With the loss of Backes, Brouwer and Ott to free agency this summer, Blues’ general manager Doug Armstrong will expect Rattie to take on an increased scoring role with the club as it begins the 2016-17 season.
