The Dallas Stars have signed their 2014 2nd round draft (45th overall) Brett Pollock to a three-year, entry-level contract, the team announced Wednesday.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it being an entry-level contract, it will fall within the strict parameters of all entry-level deals.
The 19-year-old forward is currently an alternate captain with the Edmonton Oil Kings in the WHL, where he’s put up 11 goals and 32 points in the season’s first 30 games. His 21 assists put him at 16th in the WHL and his plus-14 rating has him tied for 11th overall in the league.
This year’s point per game pace sees Pollock’s steadily increasing offense throughout juniors continue. He posted 62 points (32-30-62) in 70 games last season and 55 points (25-30-55) in 71 games the year before that. This is his fourth season in the WHL.
Interestingly, once he graduates from major junior, he could find himself playing for AHL Texas, where he’ll be coached by former Oil Kings coach Derek Laxdal, who Pollock played for previously.
Now coming in a 6 foot 2, 200 pounds, he’s put on some weight since his draft year and continues to improve. Getting a contract mid-season shows some faith in his development from Dallas.
