Former Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban made headlines last season when he announced that he would be donating $10 million over the next seven years to the Montreal Children’s Hospital. Despite this summer’s trade to the Nashville Predators, Subban wanted to make sure that the patients there knew he was going to honor his commitment to them.

On Wednesday, a heart-wrenching video was released documenting the letter that Subban wrote to the patients at the hospital. “Just because I have a new address, it doesn’t mean that my commitment to you and to the hospital is going to change one bit,” he wrote. The two-minute video shows patients and their parents reading portions of the letter out loud and captures the positive effect the star defenseman has on each of the young children at a personal level.
“You can’t imagine how rewarding it is to watch you get better and leave the hospital with your families,” Subban wrote. He also promised “many more surprise visits” to the hospital in the future.
Subban’s charitable efforts during his career in Montreal are part of what makes him such an endearing figure to Canadiens fans and a positive example for players across the league.
