With the NHL’s first-round exits all but solidified — Chicago or St. Louis will join the ranks Monday night, Anaheim or Nashville will follow soon after — Team USA has added three more players to their 2016 World Championship roster.
Detroit forwards Dylan Larkin and Luke Glendening will be headed to Russia, as will New York Rangers defenseman Brady Skjei. The addition of this trio brings the roster to 20 players. That means it’s possible the team adds three more, most likely two forwards and a defenseman.
Players from the Minnesota Wild, Philadelphia Flyers and Florida Panthers may be among the players added to World Championship rosters over the next couple days, with those three teams being eliminated from the NHL postseason on Sunday.
One possibility for Team USA is Minnesota Wild center Charlie Coyle. He played for the U.S. at the World Championship last year, putting up five points in five games. He brings some size and versatility with the ability to play wing or center and could be a nice addition with a little bit of experience, complimenting a very young roster.
