Tie Domi was known mostly for his fighting abilities and physical play throughout junior career and tenure in the NHL.
Unlike his father, Tie’s son, Max Domi, is creating quite the buzz among scouts and fans alike as being one of the most promising, young offensive talents available in this year’s OHL Priority Draft and for future NCAA recruitment.
The high-scoring center currently plays for the Don Mills Flyers in the Greater Toronto Hockey League and made quite the impression in both the OHL Cup (2G, 5Pts in 4GP) and the NCAA invite only showcase.
Although his dad played OHL hockey, Max was selected by Indiana in the United States League futures draft and has been reported to have a keen interest in playing NCAA for the University of Michigan, but will wait until after the OHL draft to make his final decision.
The 5-foot-9, 184-pounder no doubt has the skill to enter the OHL as a rookie next season, but the showcase tournament opened his eyes to the NCAA route, and his father approves.
Several interviews with Tie Domi have concluded that Max’s mother is keen on their son receiving a quality college education, coupled with Tie’s own concern that his son may be a target in the OHL because of the family name. (Toronto Sun, Yahoo! Sports)
Although Max did get involved in a line-brawl earlier in the GTHL season, which ended in an eight game suspension, both coaches and scouts have insisted that does not reflect his true character and style of play.
Known more has a speedy, dynamic forward, Domi stands out in any game situation as the one of the best offensive players on the ice, and has a laser of a shot to go along with it.
