Tyler Ennis has been out of the Buffalo Sabres lineup since December 30, when he took a massive hit from Washington’s Alex Ovechkin. On Thursday, general manager Tim Murray confirmed to WGR 550 in Buffalo that Ennis is, as suspected, dealing with a concussion.
Murray says that Ennis is still dealing with the effects of the concussion and is slowly increasing his exercise routine, working toward return to the ice.
Ennis has put up three goals and 11 points through 23 games this season before being taken out of the lineup.
In that short time the 26-year-old center saw a considerable slow down from his 20 goals and 46 points last season. No matter what the Sabres intended to do with Ennis — trading him at the deadline or keeping him around to an experienced voice in the locker room for younger players — the lowered production made both options less than ideal. He’s got another three years on his contract that pays an AAV of $4.6 million.
