Winger Tomas Fleischmann has accepted a tryout contract with the Montreal Canadiens and will join the team on Friday for the start of training camp, the team announced on Saturday.
He spent the majority of last season playing for the Florida Panthers before being moved to the Anaheim Ducks on February 28 for Dany Heatley, who had spent most of the season in the AHL, and a 3rd round pick in the 2015 draft.
In total he played 66 games last season, scoring eight goals and 19 assists. He was ultimately scratched through the majority of the Ducks’ playoff run, finding his way into just six games, through which he had no goals and an assist.

Fleischmann could add some depth to a Montreal team that many argue is top heavy and leaned too heavily on Vezina-winner Carey Price to achieve success last year. Fleischmann isn’t a world beater, but he can provide some depth offense and manages to not be a drag on possession routinely, with a -0.2% ZSO%Rel and a 0.1% score-adjusted CF%Rel last season.
Lots of familiar names are taking PTOs this season. Keep up with all the tryout contracts with The Hockey Writers’ 2015 PTO Tracker.
