Ray Emery has been released from yet another professional tryout contract (PTO). This time it’s the PTO he was on with the Toronto Marlies, AHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The team announced that they had released Emery on Thursday.
Emery went on a PTO with Toronto on December 18 as the organization was struggling with goaltending depth. Garrett Sparks was grabbing his first NHL starts, Jonathan Bernier was in a serious slump and James Reimer was out with an injury as well.
In his time with the Marlies, Emery went 2-1-0 through three games, posting a .897 save percentage.
The 33-year-old netminder’s contract with the Philadelphia Flyers expired at the end of last season. Without a deal at the start of training camp, he took a PTO with the Tamp Bay Lightning after Andrei Vasilevskiy required preseason surgery.
The Lightning eventually released him and Emery took a PTO with the Ontario Reign of the AHL. He was released from that PTO shortly before he signed one with the Marlies.
