Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin missed the tail end of last season and all but one game of the postseason after suffering a partially lacerated Achille’s tendon. When he returned in the opening round series against the Minnesota Wild, he was injured again. While details were scarce, it was hinted that he injured his calf in the return to game action.
Now, Seguin says he feels “great” and expects to be ready to go when the World Cup of Hockey rolls around. Seguin hasn’t talked to the media much since the injury, but general manager Jim Nill suggested in mid-July that Seguin would be healthy in time for the World Cup.
“Doing well. It’s been a short but long summer,” Seguin told the media Saturday, “bit of a different summer as far as training wise just coming off an injury, but feeling great and looking forward to the World Cup in the next month or so.”
Seguin is entering his fourth year with the Dallas Stars since being traded from the Boston Bruins. He is expected to suit up for Team Canada at the World Cup alongside linemate Jamie Benn, who was the recipient of a contract extension this summer.
Asked if he’s been in contact with Benn since the extension he said, “Yeah, a little bit. Just said congrats and save some for the rest of us. I think he’s deserved everything. I think he’s a great leader, a great teammate and obviously a great linemate, so I was definitely excited for him.”
