The Dallas Stars will face the Minnesota Wild on home ice for Game 3 without the services of Tyler Seguin and Kris Russell, Coach Lindy Ruff announced Monday.
Seguin is back in Dallas after he “irritated something” in his first game in a month Saturday. Seguin missed that month after having 15% of his Achilles tendon cut on March 17. While it seems logical that it would be his Achilles, Ruff wouldn’t say that exactly.
“Not his injury,” Ruff said, “but it is kind of related. Might be kind of a fallout of all of a sudden playing at a high pace.”
Seguin returned for Game 2 and lined up on the team’s top line from his first shift on, but only logged 15:40 of ice time in the 2-1 over Minnesota. Darren Dreger added that he was told Seguin “tweaked something not Achilles related.”

“He was ready,” Ruff said. “His declaration was he was ready to play, felt great, and then it becomes my decision. It was my decision to play him because I felt he looked good in the couple of previous practices, we got him a couple of extra ones. He just irritated something that rendered him not effective.”
Ruff called Seguin day-to-day and said they could call him to St. Paul if they decide they need him for Game 4.
Kris Russell (sick) unlikely to play tonight. CGY gets 1st rd pick if Stars go to Conf Final AND Russell plays in 50% of Rd 1+2 games. #TSN

The team will also be without Russell, who was acquired at the trade deadline to help with depth concerns on the blue line. He is out ill.
The Stars currently lead the Wild 2-0 in the series, with the first home games for the Wild coming Monday.
