Ville Leino Released From Dynamo Riga

KHL club Dynamo Riga has had Ville Leino released from his contract with the club, they announced on Tuesday. Leino, a former 50-point scorer, has not played in the NHL since the 2013-14 season.

Leino put up just three goals and nine assists through 39 games this season, his first with Riga. With the release, he sees the end of a a contract with his fourth team in the last three seasons.

Leino famously had a breakout year with the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2010-11 season, scoring 19 goals and 53 points. That prompted the Buffalo Sabres to give Leino a six-year contract with an AAV of $4.5 million.

He immediately started to decline and was bought out in the summer of 2014 after posting no goals and 15 assists through 58 games for the Sabres in the 2013-14 season.
