Recently, Stevens has served as an analyst on NHL Network but he has quite the resume in the NHL. A former fifth overall pick in 1982 by the Washington Capitals, he went on to play 22 years in the league and pile up 1,635 games with the Capitals, St. Louis Blues and New Jersey Devils.
Stevens tallied 196 goals and 908 total points throughout his career to accompany his 2,785 penalty minutes, which ranks 14th all-time.
In 2012, Stevens would take his first NHL coaching job as an assistant with his former team, the New Jersey Devils. He was eventually fired, but returned to the team as co-head coach three months later with Adam Oates in relief of Peter DeBoer. His primary responsibility during that stint was the Devils’ blue line.
Stevens will join newly hired head coach Bruce Boudreau on Minnesota’s revamped coaching staff.
