Jesse Belanger (born June 15, 1969) is a former Canadian ice hockey player, having played his final year in the NHL with the New York Islanders during the 2000-2001 season. Undrafted at the NHL level, Belanger registered back-to-back 100-point seasons with the Granby Bisons of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) in the late 1980s. His reputation as an offensive dynamo earned him a chance to play for the Fredericton Canadiens of the American Hockey League (AHL). In his rookie season, Belanger registered 98 points in 75 games and six points during six playoff games.
Making his debut during the 1991-92 season, Belanger appeared in 4 games and failing to record a point. He spent the remainder of the year in the AHL, but returned for more NHL action the following year. His time was increased to 19 games, and he played in nine additional games during the Montreal Canadiens‘ Stanley Cup run. His contributions earned him a Stanley Cup ring and was the highlight early into his pro-level career.
The following season, Belanger signed with the Florida Panthers and became an NHL regular. In 70 games, he recorded a career high 50 points, and his journey in the league appeared to be taking off. Unfortunately injuries rattled his playing time, and his production fell of as a result. The Panthers traded Belanger to the Vancouver Canucks during the 1995-96 season for two draft picks. His career spiralled from that point, playing in and out of the NHL and making stops in the International Hockey League (IHL), the Swiss B-tier National League, and a low-level Quebec league for his final six seasons in hockey.
