Ryan Miller will not be available to back-up Jacob Markstrom in Tuesday’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, according to the team.
Miller cramped up during the shootout against the Florida Panthers was forced out. It happened on a goal from Panthers forward Brandon Pirri.
The way the team reported the injury, it seemed like there was no doubt he would be around to at least back-up Markstrom on Tuesday, but that’s not the case. The team may just be exercising some caution as they head into the holiday break, making sure their starting goaltender is 100 percent when they return.
The Canucks have recalled Joe Cannata from the AHL’s Utica Comets as insurance for Tuesday’s game against Tampa.
So far this season, Miller has grabbed 28 starts, going 10-11-6 with a .909 save percentage.
